Old League of Legends accounts are being deleted by Riot for "security" reasons

Do you still have your previous League of Legends account? It may be removed for "security" reasons as Riot works to thwart criminals. The developer is interested in accounts that have not been used for more than three years, but there is a caveat.

Old League of Legends accounts are being deleted by Riot for "security" reasons

League of Legends was introduced more than ten years ago. Some of the original Summoner's Rift players have now left the game, taking their accounts and their progress with them.

However, when Riot begins to tighten down on inactivity for "security" reasons, those long-lost accounts may be in danger of being deleted. To protect player privacy, the developers will be deleting inactive accounts over the upcoming months.

In a post on August 15, Riot stated, "We utilize your data to better your experience, and if you don't need it, we don't either."

"We're dedicated to merely retaining data for as long as is required, which necessitates deleting accounts that haven't been used in a while or didn't do anything, to begin with.

What has lately occurred?

Riot launched the Durability Update in May, and ever since then, it has caused controversy. After years of damage creep in virtually every aspect, one of the League's largest mid-season updates was to make champions tankier. Every champion in the game has had their HP, armor, and magic resistance increased. Systems like healing, shields and everything else you can use to try and maintain your health pool during fights have also been rebalanced, with the majority of these changes making them more effective to keep up with the higher health pools.

Accounts for League of Legends that have not been used for three years or longer are slated for deletion. The account must have played for fewer than 20 hours and not hold any legacy material, and it cannot have acquired any game currency in its history.

Riot acknowledges that the rule is quite precise and "will not apply to most" players.

Security expert Dan Honks said on Reddit that "any account, especially dormant ones, might theoretically evolve into one that gets compromised and causes Bad Things to happen in games."

Although we'd love to be proved incorrect, "we're very convinced that the accounts we've identified using the post's criteria definitely won't be coming back," and "it doesn't make sense to hang on to data just for the sake of holding on to data."

Are athletes content?

The majority of players agree that the League has one of the largest and most diversified player populations on the globe. League of Legends is in good shape despite certain common annoyances, and significantly, Riot has been fast to remedy big issues in recent years, as it did with the Durability Update, with basic adjustments appearing in the first few days and a significant patch appearing in a couple of weeks.

Recent League scandals, or at least those that gained a lot of attention in Western communities, frequently center on processes that are separate from the game itself, including Riot's communication, the pro scene's administration, or customer support.

When will there be a significant update?

When pre-season begins at the end of the year, the following game-changing patch will be released. The jungle is the first significant area of change as information about the preseason begins to slowly leak out.

Riot stated that it wants to make the jungle less daunting, which is really wonderful news for someone who hasn't been in there since jungle Graves first got popular and was OP. The development team has disclosed that they are working on systems to suggest routes to go in the early stages, streamline the leash mechanics, and even introduce dogs that would assist you in taking camps. The idea that the jungle will be a role you can just step in and play fairly easily with a wide range of champs like most of the others is intriguing, even though there aren't any specifics just yet and this might all change with a few months of Season 12 yet to go.

Up until then, we may anticipate smaller, incremental patches to keep adjusting the champions' strengths and weaknesses and, most likely, to keep fiddling with the game's mechanics to lessen the impact of the Durability Update.

When patch 12.16 comes, fans of Udyr may anticipate his comprehensive overhaul, which should revitalize the aging champion. Recently, we finally got to witness Udyr's new appearance after he won a fan poll in which he received more than double the number of votes of the next-closest champion, and the first reactions are positive. Visually, there has been a significant change, with many Reddit followers praising his new mature dad-bod look that better fits his backstory. Early PBE testers claim that although the famous postures Udyr may switch between remaining the champion's key design element, the advantages you receive from switching stances provide depth that wasn't previously there.

Riot has not revealed how many accounts would be affected by the delete wave as of the time of publication.

If this applies to you and you still want to maintain your account, there is a workaround available. Simply log in and visit your account settings to choose not to have your account deleted.
